Machining Die Casting Molds with MeshCAM

Langdon from Whitehead Die Casting called to talk about a new project he had- machining some die casting molds using MeshCAM. Although MeshCAM was never designed with this type of job in mind, we spoke about the requirements and it seemed like everything would work well.

Initial testing was done in aluminum to verify the accuracy and quality of toolpaths. When everyting passed inspection the final molds were machined from H-13 tool steel. Using stock of this value demonstrates real faith in the output from MeshCAM.

The molds were machined, measured and easily passed inspection. Below are a few images of the mold and the cast parts.
